Diabeasy is not a standard formatted medical record, nor is it a dedicated audit tool. Rather, Diabeasy combines both objectives using single data entry as part of the standard type 1 diabetes consultation. Diabeasy enhances the consultation by providing comprehensive background data then steps through best practice consultation behaviour of data collection and evaluation. Diabeasy then generates an easy-to-read consultation summary for the patient, medical records and referring doctor. Anonymised clinic data can be seamlessly integrated into external databases like ADDN and SWEET or analysed in a self-audit.
We know type 1 diabetes
Built by patients and clinicians, Diabeasy is an innovative method of facilitating comprehensive and streamlined type 1 diabetes consultations, ensuring the capture of recommended data. It is customised for type 1 diabetes management tools (insulin pumps and multiple daily injections) and produces a graphical representation of outcome data, identification of glycaemic patterns and qualitative diabetes management goals.
Diabetes data management, simplified
Entering data into a separate database for important audit activities like benchmarking and generating analytical reports is extremely difficult with limited resources. Diabeasy facilitates this action with no extra work. Single data entry also allows summary letters to be shared with the patient or referring doctor and are automatically produced by Diabeasy as part of the standard diabetes consultation.
Security and privacy
Storage of personal data is performed over secure protocols and is de-identified in order to maintain strict privacy. Diabeasy's database is regularly checked and maintained to ensure data security and integrity.
Efficient use of limited resources
“I am convinced that this methodology is the only way that all Australian regional centres will be able to provide complete, honest, accountable data that will improve patient outcomes”.
Dr Peter Goss APS ISPAD Workshop 2021
Effortless and fast data entry
Data entry can be time-consuming. Not with Diabeasy.
Provide summary of consultation
A comprehensive summary sheet is then prepared as a PDF and can be given to the patient.
Securely upload to medical records
The summary sheet can easily be uploaded to the patient's medical record or even sent to their referring doctor.
Receive benchmarking reports
Data entered in Diabeasy can effortlessly be anonymised and transferred to external databases for benchmarking and analysis to improve patient outcomes.
Diabeasy was founded by Thomas Sutherland in 2019 with Dr Peter Goss and Jenny Goss (Team Diabetes). Thomas lives with type 1 diabetes and is a medical student at the University of Melbourne passionate about solving problems in healthcare through the use of digital technologies. Dr Peter Goss and Jenny Goss saw the challenges of type 1 diabetes consultations and worked with Thomas to create the Diabeasy solution which they now use in their practice.
Dr Peter Goss, consultant paediatrician and Jenny Goss, Credentialled Diabetes Educator, work as Team Diabetes in Geelong Victoria and deliver paediatric diabetes outreach services to Melbourne and Gippsland. Peter is the Chair of the Australian Paediatric Society Diabetes Committee and is a strong advocate for best practice diabetes management in regional Australia. Both Jenny and Peter have been co-authors in ISPAD international clinical consensus guidance for diabetes in schools. Peter led a collaborative team that were awarded the 2019 ISPAD international prize for diabetes innovation for the creation of an e-learning program for diabetes in schools (t1d.org.au). Team Diabetes is one of 4 Australian centres that contribute to the SWEET international diabetes database. The creation of a seamless process to audit all Australian diabetes team outcomes has been a long standing passion. Diabeasy has worked the experience and intellectual property of many years of regional paediatric diabetes care into a novel, seamless process that can be used across Australia and internationally.
